Product Description Charles Manson's woman reveals the incredible truth of the Helter Skelter murders. Now for the first time, a member of the Manson family tells the inside story of America's most horrendous murders. She was young and attractive, but desperate to find happiness. Then she met Charles Manson. She felt she had met the world's savior. With him, she lived in a world of devil worship, drugs and sexual orgies that ended with the most incredible crime of the era. Condemned to die, rejected by society, Susan Atkins was born again on death row. After years of silence, here is her eyewitness account of life and death with the Manson family, her own story of a trip to hell and back.

Amazing!! March 8, 2010 Sideshow T (Kansas) Wow, this book gives people quite an insight. It's very powerful and really touched me. Very much an eye-opener. Very encouraging. Gives a lot of hope. How could this book not speak to someone?
Okay but DISAPPOINTED December 13, 2009 Mistress Renata (Somewhere in Texas) There is so much more Susan Atkins could have told us the readers that she did not speak about. Even though she tells how she was almost constantly high on drugs, certainly she must have remembered more about the murders than she includes in the book. And that is VERY LITTLE! And is that not why people would buy her book? To read about the murders? Not to read about Jesus and how he came to visit Susan in her cell. That is hogwash and has nothing to do with what people want to know.
Instead, she talks about the path she traveled to get where she was--in prison for life until she died in Sept. 2009. The book does not go that far, obviously, but stops in the late 1970's.
It was some enlightening but I still consider it a disappointment and definitely not worth the over-priced value the book collectors put on it to sell on Amazon. Money wise--the book is worth about $1-$2 max. So if you are being charged more than that--skip it and save your money.
MAÎTRESSE RENATA
Another look at the Helter Skelter Story November 11, 2009 Bob from the Midwest (The Middle of No Where) A few months ago when the news was covering the 40th anniversary of the Tate-LaBianca murders and stories about Ms Atkins' cancer. In the process of web surfing the story to get a refresher. I came across Susan's web site and was impressed by her artistic ability, esp. her jewelry having taken a few courses in it myself, and began to wonder how such a cute innocent looking and obviously not stupid girl could become one of the most notorious murderers, leading to an epiphany of sorts realizing there had to be a back story & side story to Crazy Charlie and those girls who shaved their hair & carved X's in their foreheads,
Beyond seeing the made for TV Helter Skelter movie I really didn't know much about the murders. If this version tells any more truth than any other remains an open question. As others mentioned any story connected to Manson seems to have multiple versions, some from the same person, and deciding which one to "believe" seems to be a matter of personal bias. On the plus side the book does tell about the events of her pre-Manson days and the events that contributed to her negative & anti-authority views, but beyond what is already urban folklore. it really doesn't give any new insight into the "thinking" that lead her to be involved with 8(+?) murders, I suppose after the drug wore off and she began to realize how she had screwed her up her life, she needed a way to explain her actions to herself and a way to deflect the harsh reality of her actions, If anything she seems to be a lost and confused person. When her parents failed her, she turned to Manson, when he failed her she turned to religion. So if being a Christian makes it so she can live with herself then leave her to her beliefs and let rest in peace.
condition October 8, 2009 Linda Banks (Hiram, georgia) The book was in bad shape....it was ordered as "Used" but I didn't expect the spine to be broken and the pages loose.
Very interesting book June 30, 2009 Mrs. J. C. Emeny Well written and interesting, many people will think that susan did this to try and come to terms with what she did. No matter what you think to the final outcome , you will like this book
