Product Description A loving New York couple is expecting their first baby, however Rosemary's husband makes a pact with the devil to send his career skyward. Genre: Horror Rating: R Release Date: 8-AUG-2006 Media Type: DVD
Amazon.com Psychological terrorism and supernatural horror have rarely been dramatized as effectively as in this classic 1968 thriller, masterfully adapted and directed by Roman Polanski from the chilling novel by Ira Levin. Rosemary (Mia Farrow) is a young, trusting housewife in New York whose actor husband (John Cassavetes), unbeknownst to her, has literally made a deal with the devil. In the thrall of a witches' coven headquartered in their apartment building, the young husband arranges to have his wife impregnated by Satan in exchange for success in a Broadway play. To Rosemary, the pregnancy seems like a normal and happy one--that is, until she grows increasingly suspicious of her neighbors' evil influence. Polanski establishes this seemingly benevolent situation and then introduces each fiendish little detail with such unsettling subtlety that the film escalates to a palpable level of dread and paranoia. By the time Rosemary discovers that her infant son "has his father's eyes" ... well, let's just say the urge to scream along with her is unbearably intense! One of the few modern horror films that can claim to be genuinely terrifying, Rosemary's Baby is an unforgettable movie experience, guaranteed to send chills up your spine. --Jeff Shannon

Be careful..... June 18, 2010 Joe "SHmoE" 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this movie because I heard and read good things about it. Maybe these reviews were all written in the 60s who knows. Personally, this movie is overrated and the ending is just awful. I gave 2 stars for the simple reason that Mia Farrow is stunning.
all too human May 27, 2010 Cleo (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Despite being made in the 1970s, this is a very watchable film. The set and costume designs are excellent. The editing is so different from American style filmmaking. Mia Farrow does an amazing job conveying a non-fool surrounded by incredible stinkers including her selfish husband. This could be a cautionary tale about dealing with other people in life and not be about the supernatural at all. It's more sinister and digestible to blame Satanism, but Michael Clayton is about similarly awful human beings.
This is not a horror movie!!!! May 18, 2010 Torgo (Auburndale, Fl United States) 0 out of 8 found this review helpful
Would somebody please tell my why everyone is classifying this as a horror film. There wasn't anything horror about it. Don't get me wrong, the movie is excellent with some top notch acting and cinematography. However, I found the movie to be completely misleading in the direction in which it was going, teasing you with some creepy singing at the opening credits, but going nowhere for the first half of the movie. There was some disturbing imagery in it, but nothing to the level of an actual horror movie, this was more of a psychological/supernatural "drama". Half way, i found myself frustrated and begging for some actual progression. Thankfully the story started to take off in the second half, but I was still frustrated that I was not actually watching a horror film. I wasn't expecting blood and gore, and some guy with a chainsaw, but you would think a film that labels itself as horror and with a Devil worshiping story, would have similar horror qualities like the "Exorcist" or "The Omen" which are true horror movies and blow "Rosemary's Baby" completely out of the water. For those of you interested in a Disturbing drama, then go for it. For those of you looking for a psychological/supernatural horror, look elsewhere.

Mia Farrow Is A Sweetheart And Satan Is A Cad April 28, 2010 SuperPlagiarizer (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Satan shags a sweet pixie you just want to hold. You know how a woman will say, "I just want to be held?", and you sigh because you know from experience that she's an insatiable wildebeest? Mia Farrow is not like that, she's cute as a button. An earth angel. So Satan starts to shag her, and she can't fight back because she's been drugged by her husband and kooky neighbors. (The neighbors are similar to Fred and Ethel Mertz -- except they worship Satan!) Too bad Mia wasn't sober and packing heat, so she could teach Satan some manners vigilante style! You gotta nip Satan's shenanigans in the bud as soon as he starts getting frisky. That's the only way to go with jerks like him. I mean, could you imagine Mia going to trial, with a Marcia Clark-type prosecutor pleading her rape case against Satan's team of lawyers? Give me a break! I would have loved to see a sober Mia mouth a catchphrase then play judge, jury, and executioner by kicking Satan in the pills and emptying a clip into his dome.
