Product Description NTSC/Region 0. Out of print in the U.S.! Described by director Roman Polanski himself as his best film, Cul-de-sac draws heavily on the traditions of the Theatre of the Absurd and echoes of Beckett's Waiting For Godot in both its themes and visual style. George (Donald Pleasence) and Teresa (Francoise Dorleac) marriage is based on a struggle for sexual dominance. Teresa emasculates her husband, physically and psychologically to the point of complete humiliation. George, for his part does try to fulfill the role of dominant male, but ultimately his efforts are merely destructive and leave him more isolate than ever. Cul-de-sac is a bizarre and blackly comic study that revisits Knife in the Water's theme of what happens when a tense relationship fragile status quo is disruptive by outside influences. Starring: Donald Pleasence, Françoise Dorléac, Lionel Stander, Jack MacGowran. Includes the 24 minute Two Gangsters And An Island, a lovingly produced discussion and analysis of the film, with Polanski who also co-wrote the script, cinematographer Gilbert Taylor, production designer Voytek, and the producers, among others.

| Customer Reviews: Polanski's third Feature Film. September 21, 2009 Dr. Feelgood (USA) 0 out of 14 found this review helpful
After the success of his first feature film, Knife in the Water, and his second film, Repulsion, Polanski, directed his third film, Cul De Sac, which lacked the same focus of his first two films. Although, the film offers some interesting characterizations, and situations. All in all, it just wasn't very compelling to watch.
